  greetings from hot hot happy madrid! how's the end of summer treating you? are you listening to wonderful, melancholy augustine airliner on repeat like i have? have you found it as difficult as me to place yourself in front of a computer to do anything? even though there were several post ideas floating around the house in the last few days, germinating, growing a bit under this sun. truth be told i've been here all week pretty much doing nothing, simply fighting the sweat with lots of cold vinegary soups (cf. gazpacho, ajoblanco*), watching movies half-way (mr arkadin, so concentrated yet oil-n-vinegary, even half of it will do for the time being. btw the real,… Read More

the world turned upside down. do you remember a while ago we had a new tshirt for sale, it was Huge, Red, a Sleeper we said, very limited edition (at only 10 shirts printed, by a man named Monkey), and featured a design of two people walking on their hands, dressed only in what looked like eggshells? some of you were even mildly disturbed by it, now that i remember. tomorrow i might be posing in front of the original inspiration for this silly shirt, hieronymus bosch´s the garden of earthly delights. i´m not trying to bore you here too much just wanted to explain why i prefer the name in spanish, el jardin de las delicias, mostly because it´s… Read More

hello! we're working here in madrid. we've been eating lupe's masterful white bean spread. so garlic-y, so good. it's been powering our recording sessions the last couple of days. that and richard fleischer movies at the filmoteca. it's an amazing old cinema. a couple nights ago we saw orson welles embark on a 10 minute anti-capital punishment monologue in 'compulsion' (1959). incredible. also starring a very young dean stockwell. conferring afterwards, we concluded it was 'quantum leap' than brought dean stockwell into our lives. anything pre-that, we just didn't know. at least back then.
